How To Level The Floor Before Installing The Ceramic Tile
Floor leveling could be a very large task,
There are floor leveling companies that
do only that.
They jack your house up and level it from underneath.
As far as just a room goes, now a tile setter could
do that or you could get a carpenter.
In most cases a tile setter would put down a Mud Bed.
This is done with felt, metal lath.and sand mixed with cement.
I would say most of the tile setters today don't even do this
type of Muddling anymore because they are the new school
generation.
They were never trained to do it, and some way got by without
learnning becase of so many new methods on the market.
However they found out that some of the skills could not be
replaced with backerboard, and other new underlayments.
So a lot of your tile setters will subjest that you call a carpenter.
In order to level a floor using floor mud looks very complicated,
but I teach some of this in one of my videos, the website
is http://tileashower.com
By looking at the video demo I have for download, you will get
some ideal what it Intel's.
How ever there are more ways to do this task, I just can't explain
in an email.
If you will call me I will explain in more detail.
How To Install Backerboard And Installing Ceramic Tile
The thinset will help some of the unevenness
but not much, up to around 1/8 inch.
If it doe's not do the job, after it sets up then
you can prep the floor with a little self leveling compound,
And yes put your screws in before the thinset dries
if you wait until it sets the screws may bend and the
thinset cannot give.
You should walk around on the board a little to to firm it up
after thinsetting it to the floor.
Be sure to use the screws that are recommended by the hardybacker.
These screws are coated and will not rust or decay.
They may cost a little more but in the long run are worth it.
Be sure to tape the joints, when houses shift these could cause the tiles to become lose and creak.
You may need to go back over your backerboard to be sure all the screws are set.
If the screws are poking up this will cause the tile to poke up as well.
How To Lay Out The Floor When Installing Ceramic Tile
The most common place to start Laying tile is on the longest straightest wall.
Taking in consideration that you might need to start out with a cut
In order for your tiles to center a door or a bay window.
I talk about laying out a floor in the install videos.
But some people like to start in the middle of the room
This is done more often with Vinyl Composite tile, better
know as VCT, it is the seen a lot in supper markets,
And also comes in a thinner version that's a pill and stick.
To find the center of the room you will measure one end to the other
And get the distance and then divide that distance in half.
That is the center of the room in that direction, then you should
Measure the other direction and repeat what you did.
Take both measurements and make a cross hair in the center of the room.
That's it, Then you start laying your tile off the cross hair, using it
As a control line.
How To Install Ceramic Tile Over Vinyl
You don't have to remove your baseboard to
lay your tile over the vinyl.
But it is the right way to install tile.
It sure is a lot easer to cut your tile
knowing that your base board will cover up some
of your mistakes.
And any time a wall is just a little out of square it shows real bad when you don't remove the base board.
For cutting your tile around the door jams.
Lowe's has a real nice jam saw for about $10.00
after cutting the jams you can slide your tiles
right under the door jam
Your tile cuts will look so much better and are so much easer and faster to cut.
Before installing the tile be sure the vinyl is not coming loose.
If it is you should remove the loose vinyl and patch that area with the latex modafied thinset before installing the tile.
